Keeping Your HVAC System Free and Clear

After our heater stopped working altogether last winter, we realized that it might be time to consult with a professional. We called a family friend who is also an HVAC contractor and he came out right away to see what he could do. After taking a look at things, he told us that our vents were almost completely blocked with dust and dirt. He recommended a vent cleaning company to come out and help, and they removed loads of debris the next day with specialized suction tools. After that, our HVAC system ran almost perfectly. This blog is all about the importance of keeping your HVAC system free, clear, and functional.

Why Is My AC Not Working? 4 Possible Problems

Most people do not think about their air conditioning system until a part of the system fails or the entire unit breaks down. Few homeowners are passionate about proper AC maintenance. However, this is one of the investments that cost a lot of money. You can avoid missing out on your investment by learning about common AC issues and how to handle them. Here are the four most common AC complications and ways to deal with them.

Low Refrigerant Levels

The refrigerant is crucial for the AC appliance's cooling function. It flows between the evaporator coils and the condenser coils. Typically, the evaporator coil holds the cold refrigerant. When hot air comes into contact with the coils, the refrigerant absorbs the heat and evaporates. In the condenser coils, the heat from the refrigerant is dissipated to the outdoors. When the refrigerant levels are high or balanced, your AC appliance efficiently removes the heat from the room. If there is a leak in the system, the refrigerant levels go down, making the system inefficient. A technician can locate and seal the leak, improving the overall system efficiency.

Issues with the Fuse or Circuit Breaker

Sometimes the system stops working because of an electrical issue. Your AC's power connections include fuses and circuit breakers. The breakers protect your unit from damage in case of a power surge. However, if they trip or blow, your system might no longer receive electrical power. You should speak to a technician about a possible fuse replacement if you suspect that this could be why your AC has stopped working.

Damages to the Fan Blades

The fan blades on your AC appliance come from metal, so they can bend or break when exposed to excessive pressure. Sometimes, they also become loose during their operation. When the blade gets bent, it will damage other components around it. The best way to handle bent and damaged AC fan blades is by replacing them. An air conditioner cycles on and off when there are issues with the fan blades.

Poor DIY Maintenance

Sometimes the problems with your air conditioning system stem from poor DIY maintenance. An annual professional tune-up is a perfect chance to assess all components and their effectiveness. A professional will ensure all systems are operational.

The best way to handle AC issues is by hiring an AC repair technician. With their help, you can repair everything that might be ailing your AC and get it back to optimal performance.
