Keeping Your HVAC System Free and Clear

After our heater stopped working altogether last winter, we realized that it might be time to consult with a professional. We called a family friend who is also an HVAC contractor and he came out right away to see what he could do. After taking a look at things, he told us that our vents were almost completely blocked with dust and dirt. He recommended a vent cleaning company to come out and help, and they removed loads of debris the next day with specialized suction tools. After that, our HVAC system ran almost perfectly. This blog is all about the importance of keeping your HVAC system free, clear, and functional.

Repairs A Heating Contractor Can Perform For Your Furnace

When the weather outside is cool or cold, your home's furnace system will have to work for long hours in order to keep the home's interior at a comfortable temperature. Despite the fact that your furnace may be designed to run for years before it needs to be replaced, there are some routine repairs that you may encounter with your heating system that will require a professional to address.

Replacing The Furnace's Burner

The burner for the furnace may be among the most critical components in the system. This is the part of the unit that will transform the fuel source into heat. Unfortunately, this can cause considerable wear to the burner as a result of the intense heat that it can experience. Eventually, this is a component that will have to be replaced in order for the furnace to continue to operate efficiently. While replacing the burner is a fairly routine and affordable repair, it is a process that can be more difficult than it looks due to the ease of accidentally creating a loose connection between the furnace and the fuel supply line.

Addressing Heat Exchanger Damage

The furnace's heat exchange is another critical component of the system. This heat exchange will transfer the heat from the burner into the home. Unfortunately, it can be possible for the heat exchanger to develop a crack in it. This can be a serious problem as it can impact the performance of the furnace while also potentially creating significant safety concerns for the house. An example of this could be the risk of the cracked heat exchanger contributing to a fire starting or even allowing toxic fumes to vent into the interior of the home.

Removing Corrosion

Corrosion can be another problem that your furnace may experience. Often, a home's furnace will be in the basement or other isolated area of the home. This can lead to a greater chance for condensation to develop on the surface of the furnace. Over time, this can cause it to corrode. This corrosion could create weak spots on the furnace that may be far more likely to fail. Luckily, it is possible for a furnace repair technician to effectively remove this corrosion from the exterior unit. As a part of this repair process, a protective sealant will be applied to the area that was suffering from corrosion so that the rust will be unable to return. This is due to the sealant being able to act as a protective barrier against moisture exposure.
